:: Hypofluorous acid is not fluorine in a + 7 oxidation state, but it's still pretty damn cool.
2.
Hypofluorous acid in acetonitrile ( generated " in situ " by passing gaseous fluorine through " wet " acetonitrile ) serves as a highly electrophilic oxygen-transfer agent.
3.
In order to synthesize ?-hydroxy esters, different oxidants are needed such as NaOCl ( see above ), lead ( IV ) acetate, or a hypofluorous acid-acetonitrile ( HOF-ACN ) complex.
4.
*Organic oxidation at nitrogen gives the aromatic thiazole " N "-oxide; many oxidizing agents exist, such as mCPBA; a novel one is hypofluorous acid prepared from fluorine and water in acetonitrile; some of the oxidation takes place at sulfur, leading to non-aromatic sulfoxide / sulfone:
5.
The oxoacids of chlorine, bromine and iodine have the formula O A ( OH ) where " n " is the oxidation number : + 1, + 3, + 5 or + 7, and A = Cl, Br or I . The only oxoacid of fluorine is F ( OH ), hypofluorous acid.
